In the book of Zechariah in the Holy Scriptures we see the prophet give a word from God to His servant Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel had been given the task to govern Jerusalem during a very difficult time and rebuild their destroyed temple.
The word of the Lord came as follows: “It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies… Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”. – Zechariah 4:6, 10
Has the Lord asked you to do something? Is there a work that needs to be started, but you don’t feel you are strong enough, have enough resources or have the experience needed? Maybe you think the little you have to offer won’t make a difference or is only a drop in the bucket of great need around you.
Look to Zechariah 4 and remember that it isn’t by our own strength or force but by the Spirit of God that work is accomplished. This means that you are able to do ANY task that God puts in your heart to do. ANY task. Because He is the force driving the work. If you want God-sized results then your primary responsibility is to be in the Word so you can be filled with the spirit.
And even if it’s a small task or a small start, God rejoices in the beginning of a work. He celebrates. Sounds like a good reason to get started to me.
